|Original Design in the Art Nouveau style.|
In the initial design of this quilt I used the snowdrop not only for its design possibilities but also because of the snowdrop properties that have been tested and used in the treatment for Alzheimer's patients. As the design evolved my mother was entering the last stages of Alzheimers. At the time I didn't realize how much my mother's illness was on my mind or how much it was influencing my design.
When the quilt was finished I finally recognized what all the design choices in this quilt represented. The dark background was the unknown my mother now lives in. The spider web quilting (which I thought was a great design inspiration) I now know as the descriptive cob-webs that fill her mind. The bright white snowdrops; those precious, lucid, clear moments that all family members of an Alzheimer patient wait for and cherish.
Machine pieced, extensively hand quilted. 100% cotton fabric and batting. Cotton and metallic thread used.
