About the Artist

I've always known I was an artist, from an early age of coloring outside the lines and never giving up on interpreting objects my way to finally finding fabric. During those years of growing as an artist I experimented with many mediums; oils, pastels, pencil drawing, glass. Then I found fabric and quilting, and truly knew this was to be my medium. I am inspired by everything around me, and give special attention to nature, shapes and the ideas that wake me up in the middle of the night.

Fabric is a medium with it's own design and colors created by other artists. The challenge is to take the fabric and create something that transforms it into a new form with a new identity that expresses my ideas. Sometimes a piece of fabric alone can demand a stretch of my imagination and cause me to go beyond the boundaries of my creativity. When this happens I have finally learned to let go and see what happens.

I consider myself a traditional quilter in construction. I think it is important to carry on the tradition of quilting by using the techniques used for generations. The distinction of being a contemporary quilt artist comes from my designs. My quilts take two directions; precise geometric quilts with optical or graphic appeal and the hand drawn designs with fluid lines and varying themes. Whether drafting a pattern or drawing a design, color and contrast are the important elements I use to interpret my designs. All of my quilts are hand quilted and only cotton fabrics, batting and threads are used.
